The Shannara Chronicles — from Smallville & Into the Badlands creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and Iron Man & Jungle Book director Jon Favreau — had a modestly-rated premiere run on linear TV but did well in young demos, delayed and multi-platform viewing as well as on social media. The series averaged a 0.98 L+3 rating in MTV’s core P12-34 demo, ranking as MTV’s top-rated new series this year.Shannara also saw the highest average L+7 lift (+106%) for a freshman series in MTV history. A strong digital performer, the series pulled in 16.6 million streams across all MTV’s digital properties and ranks as the highest grossing digital download for a single season on MTV ever.
The Shannara Chronicles follows a trio of heroes who’ve embarked on a quest to stop a demon army bent on destroying humanity’s world. It stars Poppy Drayton as Amberle, an Elvin Princess; Invana Baquero as Eretria, a Human Rover; Austin Butler as Wil, a Half-Elf, Half-Human, and Aaron Jakubenko as Ander.
The Shannara Chronicles is co-produced by MTV, Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films. The series is executive produced and written by Gough and Millar. Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Terry Brooks and Dan Farah also serve as executive producers.

Shirley MacLaine also stars in adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale
MVP Studios is mounting a new adaptation of “A Little Mermaid,” based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
“The Shannara Chronicles” star Poppy Drayton will star in the film alongside Loreto Peralta and Shirley MacLaine.
Chris Bouchard is directing from a screenplay by Blake Harris.
Story follows a young orphan (Peralta) who discovers a beautiful and enchanting creature (played by Drayton) she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid.” MacLaine portrays Eloise, an eccentric woman who has intimate knowledge of the story.
Robert Molloy and Armando Gutierrez, who founded MVP, will serve as executive producers.
“We’re thrilled to be launching MVP Studios with ‘A Little Mermaid,’ a magical adventure that uses the beloved fairy tale as its jumping off point, but is an all-new story with all-new characters that the entire family can enjoy,” the producers said in a statement. Filming will take place in Georgia, targeting a 2017 release.
